There are different types of arguments:
First:
Arguments with the intent to prove the truth with good speech, and that is
obligatory.
Second:
Arguments in matters that are neither true nor false, such as quarreling with friends regarding permissible matters. This type of argumentation is forbidden in fear that it may move one’s soul (Nafs) towards falsehood.
Third:
Arguments in falsehood, such as arguing against the truth to achieve victory for the wrongdoer.
