Is it permissible to delay iftar slightly just to be on the safe side?

The Sunnah is to hasten the iftar after confirming the sunset. If the fasting person intentionally delays iftar due to his/her belief that it is more virtuous, then that is disliked.

“The Prophet pbuh used to say when he broke his fast, “Oh, Allah, for You I have fasted, and with Your provision I have broken my fast, and I have placed my trust in You, and in You I have believed; thirst has gone, the arteries are moist, and the reward is certain, if Allah wills.”
