Chewing gum containing sugar leads to breaking one’s fast due to it containing ingredients and flavors that mix with the tongue and the saliva which enter the throat.

As for sugar-free gum, it does not break one’s fast. However, it is best to avoid it as it stimulates the saliva unnecessarily, which resembles intentionally gathering one’s saliva and swallowing it which is an act that many scholars forbade.
