The Shura is elected for a four-year term by the members of the Islamic Association of Raleigh. The IAR Constitution and Bylaws describes the functioning of the Islamic Association of Raleigh and the various rights and responsibilities of the general members, the Shura, the Board of Directors and the administration team.

The Shura comprises a group elected from the general body to appoint, oversee, guide, and direct the work of the committees. The Shura members elect a Chairman, and a Vice-Chairman to help them implement their duties towards the organization.

The Shura meetings are held at 9 AM on the second Sunday of every month at the Islamic Center of Raleigh. Community members are welcome and encouraged to observe an attend.  Due to limited capacity, community members interested in joining the meeting should indicate their intent to do so by sending an email to [email protected] at least 3 days prior to the meeting. Meetings typically have a specific agenda with follow-up items from previous meetings and new items. Certain portions of the meeting maybe closed due to the sensitivity or personal nature of an agenda item. Determination of what portions of the meeting are open or closed, as well as which and how many guests are allowed to attend the meeting, shall be at the discretion of the chairman presiding over the meeting.
