For a pregnant or nursing woman, there are some details to mention and there are many differences of opinion among the scholars as to how and when she should make up the fasts or pay the fidya.
In short:
- If she missed or is expected to miss only one Ramadan of fasting, then she would make up the days that she missed by simply fasting them when she can and no Fidya is required.
- If she missed or is expected to miss more than one Ramadan in a row, either because of pregnancy and then nursing or back-to-back pregnancies, then she can pay Fidya for each day of fasting that she has missed and she does not need to make the days up later.
Among the Sahaabah, this was the view of ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Abbaas and Ibn ‘Umar (رضي الله عنهما).
