Muslim jurists have differed regarding the duration of the menstrual cycle:
1 – no minimum length
2 – Hanafi: three days and nights up to a maximum of 10 days
3 – Shafa’i and Hanbali: one day and one night (24 hours) up to a maximum of 15 days
Minimum state of purification (minimum duration that separates the two cycles):
1 – majority: 15 days with no limit to maximum
2 – Hanbali: 13 days with no limit to maximum
Note: Bleeding that continues past the maximum duration of menstruation is classified as prolonged blood flow.
