Linguistically, ‘Umrah means going to a place and visiting it. In a religious
context, it means visiting the House of Allah in Makkah in order to perform the
rituals that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had outlined. There are two types of
‘Umrah: ‘Umrah-al-Tammatu’ which is performed during the months of Hajj
(Shawal, Duhl Qi’da, Dul Hijja), and the other type is an individual ‘Umrah which
can be performed at any time throughout the year.
