This opinion, which is that of Imam Maalik, states that a differentiation needs to be made between a pregnant woman who breaks the fast due to fear of harm to her own health and the health of her baby (which is a part of her) and that of a nursing woman who is not breaking the fast due to fear. The baby is no longer physically a part of the mother and she has the option of hiring a wet nurse if she is not able to fast while nursing.
The majority of the scholars do not agree with this opinion because there is no evidence of differentiation between the traveler, the pregnant woman, and the nursing mother.
