Yes there is a waiting period called ” i’dah ” in Arabic and it starts when the husband announces to his wife that she is divorced. This i’dah period lasts for 3 months while the couple are still allowed to be together in one place. During this i’dah period, the husband can reconsider his decision and ask his wife back. The Talaq is still intact and sound and will still count as one incident of Talaq but if the couple decide to go back to each other within the period of i’dah, they can do that without having to get married again with a new contract and a new Mahr. If they don’t go back to each other within the i’dah period and the 3 months period is over, the Talaq will be considered final and the couple need to be separated as they are no longer considered to be a married couple.
