Lead Imam

Imam Muamar Dahnoun, the lead Imam of the Islamic Association of Raleigh, is a native of Palestine and has been a resident of Raleigh, North Carolina, since 1993. Over the years, he has become a cornerstone of the Islamic community in Raleigh through his dedicated service and unwavering commitment. Since 1998, Imam Muamar has been the main fundraising coordinator and youth counselor at the Islamic Association of Raleigh, playing a crucial role in the organization’s growth and outreach.

His journey in Islamic education began in his teenage years through the traditional method of studying under the renowned scholar Muhammad Saalih al-Munajjid on the east side of Saudi Arabia, where Imam Muamar was born and raised. This formative experience instilled in him a deep understanding of Islamic principles and a strong foundation in religious knowledge.

Upon arriving in the United States, Imam Muamar earned vocational undergraduate degrees in computer science and business. Despite his success in these fields, his heart was always drawn to Islamic studies and serving the Muslim community.

In 1995, when the American Open University was first established, Imam Muamar seized the opportunity to pursue his undergraduate Islamic and Arabic studies in Alexandria, Virginia. Under the supervision of Sheikh Dr. Salah Al Sawy, he furthered his understanding of Islamic jurisprudence, theology, and Arabic language, equipping himself to better serve his community. Demonstrating his commitment to lifelong learning and scholarly excellence, Imam Muamar completed his Master’s degree in Islamic Finance from Guidance College in Houston, Texas. This advanced study integrates modern financial systems with Islamic ethical principles, addressing the financial needs of the Muslim community in accordance with Shariah law.

Imam Muamar’s role at the Islamic Association of Raleigh extends beyond religious and administrative duties. As a former youth counselor, he has mentored countless young Muslims, guiding them through personal and spiritual challenges and fostering a strong sense of identity and community. His ability to connect with the youth and address their concerns with wisdom and compassion has made him a beloved figure among the younger generation.

In addition to his professional and educational pursuits, Imam Muamar is a devoted family man. He is married and a proud father of four children, who inspire him to continue his work in nurturing and supporting the next generation of Muslim leaders.

Imam Muamar Dahnoun’s dedication to his community, his ongoing pursuit of knowledge, and his unwavering support to his community make him a respected and influential leader in the Islamic community of Raleigh and beyond.
