A 12-week Islamic studies semester that equips you to fulfill zakat and fasting with confidence and preserve your faith, judgment, and character through life’s trials.

Course Overview

Islamic Essentials Level 2 addresses two further dimensions of lived faith: fulfilling major obligations in modern life and remaining steadfast when faith is tested.

Through practical fiqh and Prophetic guidance, this semester gives students knowledge they can apply to their worship, finances, relationships, decisions, and daily conduct.

What You Will Study

Course 1- Practical Worship: Fiqh of Zakat and Fasting

With Imam Muamar Dahnoun

Learn the rulings and spiritual objectives of zakat and fasting through Umdat al-Fiqh by Ibn Qudamah and The Simple Zakat Guide by Joe Bradford.

Students will learn:

• Zakat on income, savings, investments, retirement accounts, business assets, rental income, and digital assets
• Nisab, timing, eligible recipients, and common misconceptions
• Fasting rulings related to illness, travel, pregnancy, medication, and missed fasts
• Fidyah, kaffarah, and when to seek individualized guidance

Course 2- Faith Through Trials: Forty Hadith on Fitan

With Imam Mohamed Badawy

Study forty Prophetic hadith that teach believers how to remain faithful, clear-minded, and principled when life becomes difficult or confusing.

• How trials affect the heart and distort judgment
• Wealth, desire, misinformation, social pressure, and conflict
• Patience, righteous action, restraint, unity, gentleness, and dua
• Guarding the tongue, verifying information, and responding responsibly

Why these courses together?

Zakat and fasting teach us how to obey Allah through worship. The hadith on fitan teach us how to preserve that obedience when faith is tested. Together, they help students move beyond collecting information toward living Islam with accuracy, discipline, wisdom, and steadfastness.
