SUMMARY:Introduction to Islam
DESCRIPTION:Learn about Islam online from the comfort of your home! \nDue to COVID-19\, we’re now holding online classes instead of the in-person class. We invite you to participate live either on Zoom (fill out form to get the zoom link)\, YouTube\, or Facebook every Sunday from 2-3 PM\, and you may send in your questions on the live chat. \nThis informal class is intended for non-Muslims but Muslims are highly encouraged to attend with their non-Muslim guests. The class introduces non-Muslims to the basic articles of Islam and focuses on topics that are brought up by the participants. \nOnly main issues of the faith are discussed. Any questions about Islamic law (fiqh) are forwarded to the Imams of the Islamic Center of Raleigh who are better equipped to answer those questions. \nIf you have questions\, please contact the IAR Outreach Committee at outreach@islam1.org. \nIf you request a visit and this is your first time visiting the Islamic Center of Raleigh\, here are some pointers on visiting a mosque: \n\nMen and Women are expected to wear modest\, loose-fitting clothes. Muslim women typically wear a headscarf as well.\nTake off shoes before entering the prayer area at a mosque\nPut phones on silent while prayer services are being offered\nTake conversations outside the prayer hall to avoid distracting those who are praying\nPlease be aware that many Muslims do not shake hands with anyone of the opposite gender. That is\, men do not shake hands with women\, and women do not shake hands with men. Unless he/she extends his/her hand first\, it is better to not extend yours.\n\nWe are extremely delighted that you are interested in learning more about Islam. We pray to Allah to open your heart and to make it easy for you to understand Islam.

SUMMARY:Salat ul-Khusoof
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, November 19th\, all of North America will be able to witness an eclipse of the moon (lunar eclipse). IAR will be hosting a Salat ul-Khusoof Special Event on Friday\, November 19th at 3:45 AM. \n“The sun and moon are two signs of Allah(ﷻ)\, and they do not become eclipsed for the death or birth of anyone. If you see that then pray until it (the eclipse) is over.”Salah Instructions:\nSalat-ul-Kusuf (Prayer on a solar eclipse) are each comprised of two Rak‘ahs (units of Prayer). Recitation in both Salahs (Prayers) is performed out loud. In each Rak‘ah\, there are two Ruku‘s (bowing)\, the second of which is always shorter than the first\, and there are also two recitations.\nAfter the Takbirat-ul-Ihram (saying: “Allahu Akbar [Allah is the Greatest]” upon starting Prayer)\, Surah Al-Fatihah and a long Surah are recited. After the first Ruku‘\, Surah Al-Fatihah and a long Surah are recited\, which is shorter than the preceding recitation. There are two Sujuds (Prostrations) in each Rak‘ah. This is the most authentic report mentioned regarding this Salah.
